Part of a film season exploring life in post-war Germany to accompany the exhibition Germany divided: Baselitz and his generation. Curated and introduced by Ian Christie, Professor of Film and Media History at Birkbeck College. After Hitler's defeat, Germany experienced Allied occupation and desperate privation in the post-war years. Reaching out from another defeated nation, Rossellini in Germany Year Zero poignantly portrayed the plight of a boy surviving in Berlin's ruins, from which a divided Germany would emerge.
