Near Dark film screening weekend

In conjunction with our collection exhibition, Near Dark, curated by John Skoog in collaboration with Bjarke Hvass Kure, we are inviting visitors to a weekend of free films which support the mysterious narrative created by the duo within the gallery. The Green Ray, Tacita Dean, 2001 2:30 minutes, shown throughout both days in alternation with John Skoog’s Sent på Jorden. Tacita Dean’s 16mm film preserves and experiments with the light of the Madagascan sun and demonstrates the necessity of different methods of visual documentation, both analogue and digital. La Nuit Du Carrefour, Jean Renoir, 1932 75 minutes, shown Saturday and Sunday at 11am. La Nuit Du Carrefour, or Night At The Crossroads, is a atmospheric mystery in which Renoir is trying to “give you the feeling of mud sticking to your feet, and of fog obscuring your sight”. Förår, John Skoog, 2013 16:32 minutes, shown from 2pm onwards. Förår, which roughly translates as the Swedish for Spring, explores the link between place and memory. This film further develops a character originally introduced in John Skoog’s Sent på Jorden, using his characteristic slow-pacing and starkly evocative landscapes.
