On Saturday 17th May, as part of Museums at Night 2014, Swansea Museum and Amy Sharrocks invite you to fall into the waters of Swansea, immerse yourself in the sea and share a group fall.
There are many falls: a general difficulty keeping up, the fall of an Empire, falling asleep, economic slumps and crashes, industrial depressions and recession, falls from grace. Children teach us that falling is a human condition, but somehow we forget that as we grow up…
n the hope that our repeated gesture of falling will un-shame future falls for all of us, DAYTRIP invites everyone to come together for a fall. Wash off this constant striving to be UP, reclaim our right to fall and allow ourselves to be down. Exploring the possibilities of our trips and stumbles, and questioning the joys of being sure-footed, Amy is hoping people will leap at the chance to be down, while other people are up.
Giving a new slant to the idea of a day trip, come for a stumble and flop.
Ever fallen? No matter. Try again. Fall again. Fall better.
Why not bring the family? Make it a family trip.
There will be workshops with Ruth MClees from 10 – 1 and 2 – 4, focused on Swansea Jack and his story.
Musician Paul Jones will be performing acoustic versions of falling songs, from 5:30 onwards at the tram-shed. Afterwards we will be showing the Burt Lancaster film, The Swimmer (1968).
Please stay on after the fall to talk.
Hot drinks, towels for fallers and refreshments all provided free!
You can wear anything you like to fall in, but please bring a change of clothes as the water is cold at this time of year. Towels and hot chocolate provided. The fall will take place rain or shine.
Please meet at Swansea Museum at 5pm. We will walk together to the Bay near the Observatory Tower, where DAYTRIP will take place.
