Blueprint: from Berlin via Manchester to South Africa

Hilary Burns spent her childhood in South Africa and now lives in Devon, working as a basket-maker. In a story that takes in the Lancashire cotton industry, empire and trade, missionaries and settlers, she describes the path of resist printed patterns from Central Europe to South Africa and shows how they have become part of traditional life and high fashion.
