The Harnessing of the Horses of the Sun

This story comes from Ovid. Helios, drives the chariot of the Sun across the heavens every day from East to west. His son Phaethon begs him to be allowed to drive the chariot and Helios reluctantly agrees, however, Phaethon cannot control the horses, they veer off course, too near the Earth, scorching it, creating deserts and forest fires, and turning men black. Eventually Jupiter throws an thunderbolt which hurt's Phaeton from the chariot to his death. Size: 98.1 x 73.6 cm.
