Polished Stone Axe

This polished stone axe was found in Langdale, Cumbria. It is very smooth and well shaped. Such axes were made by striking flakes off a chosen piece of stone to form a roughly shaped axe. This was then ground with another stone, until the surface was polished and one end was sharp.
