Three quarters-length seated, directed and facing half right, dressed in bishop's vestments and mitre, a scourge held in his right hand and a crozier in his left. Saint Ambrose was bishop of Milan and one of the four great Latin doctors of the Church. He was born in about the year 340 at Trier in Gaul and died at Milan on the 4th April, 397.
