Ante Trstenjak (1894 – 1970) je bil uspešen slikar in grafik. Študiral je na akademijah na Dunaju, v Zagrebu in nato v Pragi, kjer je tudi diplomiral in tam živel in ustvarjal do leta 1950. V času študija je Ante Trstenjak v Pragi videl razstavo češkega slikarja Ludvika Kube na kateri so bili razstavljeni tudi motivi Lužičank v narodnih nošah. V Pragi je spremljal delovanje Društva prijateljev Lužiških Srbov in se z nekaterimi člani tudi prijateljsko povezal. Po krajšem bivanju v Parizu je leta 1928 obiskal Lužice (današnja Nemčija) z namenom dokumentiranja etnografske dediščine, predvsem bogatih in raznolikih narodnih noš, ki so jih v tistem času še nosile dekleta in žene. Na nekajmesečnem prvemu obisku je napravil veliko skic in osnutkov s pomočjo katerih je nato kasneje ustvarjal v ateljeju. Leta 1961, ko je bival v Mariboru, je na osnovi osnutkov ustvaril obsežen cikel z naslovom Lužičanke v tehniki monotipije. Čeprav ohranja dokumentarno izhodišče in zadržanost portretirank, pa cikel odlikuje velik format, široki zamahi čopiča in sproščena (ponekod prav virtuozna) poteza v obdelavi detajla, nakita in daperije.
Mlado dekle je oblečeno v tradicionalno oblačilo katoliških Sorbkinj za opravke izven doma. Povezan životec kaže, da gre za mlado neporočeno dekle. Velika pentlja na čepici (Kopfschleife) in velika pentlja na vratu (Kinnschleife) jasno kažeta, da gre za 20eta leta dvajsetega stoletja.
