Transit circle by Edward Troughton, London with a pair of 4-foot circular scales and 12 scale reading micrometers with accessories on model masonary pillar stand. Made for Stephen Groombridge in 1806 and erected at his home in Blackheath, London. Here Groombridge used it to compile a catalogue of circumpolar stars visible from London. Later it purchased in 1823 by Sir James South for his observatory at Campden Hill, Kensington, London, but was little used. The circle was originally fitted with four reading microscopes, but 8 extra ones were added by South.
